Cultivation and Caring

Organic treatment of the trees
For pest and disease control only pesticides are used which are approved for organic farming. Since 2008, the entire farm is managed according to the guidelines of the bio-dynamic farming.

Chopped olive grove
The areas of the olive groves are not ploughed in the traditional sense. Instead, the grass is mulched three to four times a year. In this process the grasses and herbs in the olive grove are mowed, chopped and spread under the trees. The advantage of not moving the soils is that it prevents erosion! At the same time, the plant cover caused by the mulching avoids the drying out of the ground and supports soil life.
Chopper
A balanced and rich soil has a positive effect on the intensity of the flavours of olive oil. The cutting of the trees follows an annual rotating concept, so that each tree is slightly trimmed every two to three years. The trimming material is then chopped and left on the ground.
Mulched tree row
In addition, the residue, the branches and leaves, which emerge as waste products from the subsequent processing, are distributed after composting in the olive grove. They thus contribute to increase the fertility of the soil. In that way the nutrient cycle can be fully completed.
